By popular demand– evening life session!

On May 13, 2024, Quimper Arts kicked off our late PM life drawing program. It’s a “best of” our morning short pose and afternoon long pose formats, at the same price ($10 for members, $15 for non-members for a 2.5 hour session). Chris brought wine; others brought their dinners to eat between the afternoon and evening session. We have the use of a fridge, microwave and more for our all-Monday rental of the Masonic Lodge, 1338 Jefferson Street.

So if you haven’t joined us because your daytimes are scheduled, or you just want to have a full day (9:30 am to 8:30 pm) of sketching, drawing and painting from life, come join us! Members and non-members, any medium you prefer. Doors re-open at 5:45 pm for setup. We will start at 6:00 pm with a series of short poses, take a 15 minute break, and wrap up with a single one-hour long pose. We wrap up and put our toys away at 8:30 pm.

Thanks to Toni Rosetti for the photos!

It’s Almost Time for Outdoor Art

Starting April 10 and continuing through the fall, Quimper Artists will be gathering outdoors twice a month— 2nd and 4th Wednesdays– to draw, paint and sketch. Our lineup will take us to sea, forest, farm and town locations here on the Quimper Peninsula. Always free and open to the public, we meet at 9am (or come earlier, if you prefer) to enjoy creating pictures inspired by our amazing local scenery. At about 11:30 am each session, we gather and admire what each of us has done. For full information, visit our Plein Air Landscape page.

Life Sculpting

At long last Quimper Arts has started a life sculpting session! Beginning in April 2023, we’ll host 10-week evening sessions for people who would like to sculpt in clay from a model. We’ll be in the studio of a Quimper Arts member (Wayne) in Quilcene, where he will be hosting and offering some instruction the first session and as needed. There will be two 5-week sessions, with one model/one pose each 5 weeks.

We’ll work in clay, which will be provided at cost (25 lb bags) and is included in the fee. If you prefer to bring your own clay that’s OK. If you want to work in a different medium please discuss with Wayne first. Quimper Arts is also providing sculpture stands, though if you have your own stand you’re welcome to bring it. Stands and unfinished sculptures can be stored at the studio. Wayne should be able to fire your pieces also, for an additional fee (again at cost).

COST: We’re asking people to sign up and pay in advance, $250 for the 10 weeks, to cover the cost of models & clay. Some drop-ins may also be allowed, space-permitting, for $35/session.

WHEN: We’re switching Tuesdays, 5:30-8:30 pm. Though initially planned there was not a summer or fall session, but we’ll start up again in the winter or spring (2024) if there’s enough interest. Let me know if you’d like to sculpt! Call or text Wayne, 206-271-2900.

WHERE: At Wayne’s studio in Quilcene. (206-271-2900). Call if you would like to be a drop-in

WHAT TO BRING: Clay tools for ceramic or sculpture if you have any. I will have some you can use and will talk about what basic tools to get. Snacks if you wish, I’ll provide some also.

WHAT’S PROVIDED: Clay, sculpture stands, boards (or you may also bring your own board to work on), plastic to wrap your sculpture, and temporary storage.

Quimper Arts is a group of artists who draw, paint, and sculpt directly from life, be it live models or the world around us. We are an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to providing visual artists an opportunity to hone our skills. Artists of all levels of experience, including beginners, are welcome at all of our sessions. Membership brings discounts and other benefits.
The backbone of our activity is life drawing/painting every Monday morning and afternoon. From April through November, we organize bi-monthly plein air painting in the area. And in keeping with our mission of improving artistic skills, we host periodic classes and provide an opportunity for members to show their work in a public space. We are proud to be carrying forward the 40+ year history of Quimper Arts in Port Townsend.
